Research Trip to Gi Festival, Glasgow
April 2008
The Committee and young people involved in the Create Zone for MK4U 08 visited Glasgow International to view exhibitions, films and live performances as part of the city-wide festival. These included a student-led evening event at the university combining contemporary art, performance and music. Those who came along not only brought back ideas to contribute to the group’s discussions for future projects, but research for Professional Studies folders for university and schools/colleges.
Film Night
March 2008
Two young people visited Lux, London, the national agency for the support and promotion of artists’ moving image work to select from a showreel of artists films to screen at their event. Jacqueline Holt, Marketing and Engagement Manager provided them with information about the organisiation and archive and discussed ideas around artists films and their commissioning process. To challenge the idea of traditional filmmaking, the group invited multimedia artist’s NobelandSilver to host their event and asked that they raise issues/questions around this subject through their performance and audience participation.
Film Project
May/June 2008
The group invited applications to make new works and offered ongoing support to those selected, which included a workshop with artist Kim Noble to encourage creative filmmaking techniques. Two films were created and shown in the Film Tent at MK4U 2008 alongside other films selected from young people across the city.
